HORSE TRIPS FOR THE CHILDREN OF INMATES

Today, Colorado is housing over 20,000 inmates. Statistically, 45% of children with an inmate parent will serve a term of incarceration and 25% of the inmate fathers will serve time with a son.

CCM'S youth program grew from Fred's passion for horses, his outfitting experience and the fact his father, mother, and brother all served jail or prison terms. Fred has never been arrested but knows too well the inner turmoil these children experience and the complexity of emotions which keep some from excelling. Therapeutic and psychological values of youth horse programs have been well documented. Add to this a tent camp environment, Bible studies, some wild game watching and hours of exchanging thoughts on making sound moral choices in life and you have CCM's recipe for inspiring these youth to look toward Christ as their Savior and excel because of Him.

Youth from 12 to 17 participate in our horse trips with 95 percent of them returning them for least a second year. We've seen kids cry because they didn't want to go home and received letters from kids telling how the trip changed their life; still others have began serving as volunteers when they reached 18.
